Mission specifications
Aerial Firefighting
Black Hawk helicopters can be equipped with specialized equipment such as external water tank or buckets to perform water drops over wildfires, helping to suppress flames in hard-to-reach areas. Its speed, maneuverability, and lifting capacity make it highly effective for rapid response and sustained aerial firefighting operations.
Bambi Bucket
Suspended from a cable underneath the helicopter for aerial fire suppression. Uses gravity-controlled dump valves for quick water or foam release. Refilled by hovering over lakes, rivers, reservoirs, or portable tanks.
External Water Tank System
Utility & Transport
One of the main missions of the Black Hawk is to transport equipment, supplies, and cargo. Black Hawk is able carry loads inside the helicopter or lift up to 9,000 pounds (4,082 kg) using a cargo hook underneath.
Ballistic Protection
Can be equipped with two windowsill pintle mounts located on both sides of the airframe. The pintles come in various sizes and are capable of accepting a number of weapons ranging from 7.62mm machine gun and rotary 6 barreled minigun to .50 caliber machine gun.

Fast Rope Insertion & Extraction System (FRIES)
Search and Rescue (SAR)
Equipped with mission equipment such as camera, searchlight and rescue hoist, the UH-60 helicopters are often used for Search & Rescue missions saving lives in hostile environment.
Forward-Looking Infrared (FLIR) Camera
Mounted on the front of the airframe to detect infrared radiation (heat sources). Provides thermal imaging for locating individuals in low-visibility conditions (night, fog, water, dense terrain).
Night Vision Devices (NVGs) & Infrared (IR) Searchlight
Internal & External Rescue Hoists
Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC)
Equipped with medical systems such as ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and medical personnel to perform rapid evacuation and in-flight emergency care.

Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief
Black Hawks are frequently used for disaster relief missions, transporting aid supplies, rescue teams, and medical personnel to disaster-stricken areas, such as after earthquakes or floods. They also play key roles in evacuating civilians during crises.
Cargo Hook System (Heavy-Lift Capability)
Mounted underneath the helicopter, enabling it to carry external loads like power poles, construction materials, or equipment. Load release options: electronic release by pilot or manual release by crew chief.
